Oaks rejoins the CornBelters after being signed by the Chicago Cubs organization after the last game of the CornBelters 2013 season. The right handed pitcher finished last season with a team best 1.99 ERA and a team high 14 saves while tossing 49.2 innings and recording 59 strikeouts.
“Unfortunate circumstances have brought Alan back to the CornBelters,” said CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. “He had many options but chose to come back to us. He's obviously one of the top arms in the league, and in a bittersweet way, we're thrilled to have him back.”
Oaks was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the eighth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft from University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). During the 2012 season, he split time between the Jupiter Hammerheads (Florida State League - Class High A), Jacksonville Suns (Southern League - Class AA) and Gulf Coast League Marlins (Gulf Coast League - Rookie). He amassed a 2-4 record, with a 6.12 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. Appearing in 35 career games, he is 4-7, with a 4.45 ERA and 76 strikeouts.
Oaks became the all-time saves leader for the Normal CornBelters on June 15th, 2014 when he recorded his 18th career save with the CornBelters.
