CornBelters drop series finale to ThunderBolts

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, never led and lost 5-1 to the Windy City ThunderBolts on Thursday night at the Corn Crib.
The ThunderBolts struck first in the second inning on a two-run homer to left by Doug Joyce. The CornBelters answered in the third inning with a run when Pat McKenna led off with a double to left center and stole third, scoring on a fielder's choice ground ball by Romulo Ruiz.
Windy City added a pair of runs in the fifth inning when Zach Aakhus walked and went to third on a two-base error on a ball hit by Nate Tomaszewski. After Joyce was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Jeff Harkensee lined a single to left to give the guests a 4-1 lead.
The Bolts increased their lead to 5-1 in the sixth as Ryan Soares led off with a single, was sacrificed to third and scored on a base hit by Aakhus.
Matt Wickswat (1-1) earned the win with six innings surrendering five hits, while Andy Mee pitched the ninth for his second save. Tyler Lavigne (1-1) gave up four hits with four walks and six strikeouts in his five innings for the loss.
The CornBelters open a weekend series at the Corn Crib on Friday with the Frontier Greys at 7 p.m.
